Podere La Villa Toscana Giacomo

Alcohol: 15.5% Red from Italy, Tuscany Year: 2020

Originating from a small-scale, family-owned vineyard operated by the Tachis Family, their venture into wine production began relatively recently in 2004. Since then, they have managed to achieve remarkable quality. This bottle pays homage to Giacomo, the winery's founder. The family adheres to sustainable farming practices, and the grapes are harvested manually. It's a full-bodied take on Merlot, yet it retains an elegant profile. Expect notes of blackberries with subtle spices and a beautifully lively finish.

About Producer Nerdy stuff Serving

Podere La Villa, located in the heart of Tuscany, is a charming, family-owned vineyard. Spanning a modest 7 hectares, the estate dedicates the majority of its land, about 80%, to cultivating the renowned Sangiovese grapes, complemented by a selection of Merlot. Despite its relatively recent establishment 15 years ago, Podere La Villa has rapidly gained acclaim, earning high praise and scores from esteemed wine critics. The Tachis family, at the helm of the estate, collaborates with Alessandro Cellai, a celebrated enologist, to refine their winemaking process. While not officially organic, the vineyard is committed to sustainable farming practices, ensuring each bottle captures the authentic essence of the Tuscan terroir.

Fermentation

Harvested by hand at the beginning of September. Usually the grapes are gathered in one day and brought immediately to the cellar. Vinification takes place in 25 hl stainless steel vats for about 30 days. Following racking (the wine is drawn off of the lees), it rests in vats until the malolactic fermentation is complete.

Maturation

The wine is then aged in oak barriques ( 70% new oak) for more or less 18 months. After blending, it rests for further 6 months and it is finally bottled.
